Arno Hoogland is a designer strongly influenced by futurism, driven by an urge to create things that seem otherworldly — artifacts from realities yet to come. These realities are not bound by the constraints of today, but are instead futuristic visions, deeply inspired by science fiction and popular culture.

In his wall panels, he develops these visions as windows to other worlds. They may seem eclectic, but this diversity reflects various future realities: worlds waiting to be discovered.

Is geometry a constraint or a freedom for you — and has that answer ever changed?

To me it’s freedom, sometimes computertechnologie doesn’t allow me to be fully free.

Walk us through your process — where does a piece begin, and how do you know it's finished?

Mostly I start with a sketchbook with gritted lines. Trying to create an abstract language of daily reality.

Is there something outside of art — a system, structure, or phenomenon — that quietly shapes how you think about form?

I am intrigued by Fractals as a system that is seen in many growing phenomena’s, but also extraordinary weather or physics inspires me.

What does a viewer miss when they see your work as 'just geometry'?

Depth

What's the last rule you set for yourself in the work, and did you keep it?

The work should never look like it is inspired be anything.

Describe a failure or a dead end in your practice — something that didn't work.

I wouldn’t know yet
